Vehicle Fire Results in a Fatality in Fremont County

FREMONT COUNTY, Idaho – Idaho State Police is investigating a vehicle fire that resulted in one fatality that occurred Friday, October 9, 2026, at approximately 05:23 p.m. The fire occurred at mile marker 368 on US Highway 20 just north of Ashton, Idaho.

A 2003 Chevy 2500 towing a 2000 KO Manufacturing 6X20LS Livestock trailer driven by a 26-year-old male from Thayne, Wyoming, was on US20. The vehicle overheated at the top of Ashton Hill and caught fire. The vehicle was occupied by a 23-year-old female from Rexburg, Idaho, and a juvenile.

The driver was transported by air ambulance to a local hospital. The adult passenger was transported via ground ambulance to a local hospital. The juvenile succumbed to their injuries on scene.

Both eastbound and westbound lanes were blocked for approximately 3 hours.

Idaho State Police was assisted by Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, North Fremont Fire Department, Intermountain Air Ambulance, St Anthony Ambulance, and Ashton Ambulance.

This remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
